In conjunction with Women’s Day, some 300 people from different walks of life participated in an annual march. The crowd gathered outside the Sogo mall on Jalan Tuanku Abdul Rahman at 10.30 am today. The destination of the march was at the historic Dataran Merdeka.

Throughout the march, the crowd called for amendments to Malaysian policy and law. Their chants included call for equal pay as men, the end of child marriages, and social protection for “all oppressed genders”.

Over 30 police officers were alloted to keep the march under control, however the march was conucted peacefully. In a statement, a 33-year-old lawyer said, “We shouldn’t compromise on our values just because we’re older now, or we’re a mom.”
