Reopening Parliament In Sept-Oct Not Too Late: Speaker

Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun has said that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s plan to resume parliament in September or October was acceptable. His statement comes a day after Agong advice to reconvene Dewan Rakyat as soon as possible. He said that resuming Parliament in September was not too late amid the Covid-19 crisis.

 Dewan Rakyat speaker Azhar Azizan Harun said that PM Muhyiddin Yassin has the right to set a perfect date to resume parliament. According to the speaker, the decision on reopening parliament should be based on the Covid-19 situation.

Speaking with Utusan Malaysia he stated that crisis can be addressed within two or three months and it’s not too late to reopen the parliament.

Parliament has been suspended since the Muhyiddin Yassin led government imposed emergency in order to contain Covid-19 pandemic in February0.

After discussing with Malay rulers, Yang di-Pertuan Agong yesterday (16 June) told the government to resume parliament immediately.
