Prime Minister Ismail Sabri has pledged to help Rohana Abdullah, who is facing a citizenship problem. In a video uploaded by his press secretary, Asyraf Afnan Ahmad Murtadza, the PM was seen talking to Rohana. He told her that his officer would contact the National Registration Department to assist with Rohana’s documentation. Rohana was abandoned by her parents when she was a two-month-old baby.

Earlier in an interview, Rohana Abdullah said that his father, who is Malaysian, abandoned her when she was little. She further stated that she was denied citizenship because of this.
Kindergarten teacher Chee Hoi Lan raised Rohana after her Indonesian mother, who was a domestic helper there, left her before returning to her home country. Ismail also thanked Chee for taking care of Rohana and for giving her a religious upbringing.
In the video, Ismail said that he heard about Rohana’s case and her citizenship problem in a news report. Rohana thanked him after he committed to helping her. “If there is any development, my officer will contact you,” he added.
Ismail said he will assist Rohana in getting her citizenship for the sake of her future. Rohana had to drop out of school because she did not have an identification document and had suffered anxiety problems due to it.
