Onn Hafiz Ghazi has been sworn in as Johor’s 19th chief minister today, following Barisan Nasional alliance victory in Johor Election 2022 on March 12. The coalition have won 40 seats, while Onn Hafiz won the Machap seat with a 6,543 majority. The 43-year-old previously served as the executive councillor for tourism under the previous state BN-led government. This comes after receiving the consent of Johor ruler Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar.

The Machap assemblyman is the grandson of the late former prime minister Hussein Onn and nephew of current Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.
Onn Hafiz was sworn in today during a ceremony that took place in Istana Bukit Serene around 3 pm. This comes after former Johor CM Hasni Mohammad called on the top leaders of Barisan Nasional to go for a younger leader to lead Johor.
Onn Hafiz won the Machap seat, defeating three other candidates with more than two-third majority.
