PAS has denied working with UMNO in the Melaka state election, which is scheduled for November 20. In a meeting, PAS central working committee decided to work under Perikatan Nasional’s banner instead of UMNO. PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said that the decision comes under Clause 84 of the PAS constitution.

In a statement, Hadi said, “The decision was made after taking into account the guidance of PAS’ Syura Council, which met on October 31, in line with Clause 84 of the PAS constitution.”
However, the reason behind working with PN was not clear by the PAS but the move has placed the party’s Muafakat Nasional pact with UMNO on the brink of collapse.
The statement comes after UMNO Secretary-General Ahmad Maslan announced that the party will continue its political cooperation with PAS in state elections last week on Thursday.
“The basis of the cooperation with PAS is guided by the principle that PAS will use its own party symbol,” Maslan added.
Maslan said the decision, which is in line with the party’s aim to consolidate MN, was made to avoid clashes between the two parties and also to maintain the use of their respective party logos.
