Malaysia Covid-19: Over 16,000 New Cases, More Than 200 Deaths In 24 Hours

At least 16,117 new Covid-19 cases were recorded in Malaysia in the last 24 hours more than half of the cases belonged to Klang Valley. The new number of Covid cases takes the total number of infections to over 1,044,000. Selangor remained the worst hit state with 6,616 new Covid cases. According to health ministry, a total of 11,526 patients were cured from Covid, bringing the total number of cured cases to over 865,400. At least 207 new deaths were reported in the last 24 hours. So far, 8408 people have been died due to Covid-19.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Adham Baba has ensured on Tuesday not to take action against the contract health workers who are protesting against the government, demanding their permanent position.

“No action will be taken against them and all contract basis doctors will be given permanent position,” he said in the parliament.

“We will support you if you want to amend the bill, but only if you give them at least eight years. We request for eight years, not two years. Eight years is what they requested,” he further added in his statement.
