Malaysia Needs A Govt That Doesn’t Prioritise Partisan Politics: Dr M

Kuala Lumpur: Former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad today said Malaysia needs a government which can keep partisan politics aside to assure that the country is to survive the Covid-19 outbreak and economic fallout.

Dr M also said that Malaysia should have a government which prioritises the nation’s survival over party’s survival.

The Langkawi MP said the country has been divided by party-based politics which has made the pandemic even more difficult. “A unity government is a good approach. People, too, are tired of party politics,” he said.

Citing the example of the government formed in the 1969 general election, he said it was followed by continues riots, however, to put a halt to them Tun  Razak Hussein inviting the then Opposition parties to join the ruling coalition.

He further quoted British Prime Minister Winston Churchill’s example, which included its Opposition leader Clement Attlee of the Labour Party.

He added that the current Perikatan Nasional’s government choose party-based politics over people’s interests.

He even expressed his concern over the implementation of emergency, which would add extra power to the government leading to dictatorship. Adding that Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin does not need extra power.
