Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin has said that some immediate steps need to be taken to slow down the spread of the Omicron. Khairy said that extensive booster dose coverage, wearing a face mask, good ventilation, TRIIS (test, report, isolate), MySJ Trace and international gateway control, are among the measures to stop the spread of Omicron. As of now, Malaysia has reported a total of 64 Omicron, the new variant of Covid-19, cases.

“If the case denominator is bigger, it is certain that hospital admissions or ICUs (Intensive Care Unit) will increase,” Khairy while sharing
Khairy, however, said that the Omicron variant of Covid-19 is less dangerous than the Delta one which was responsible for the second wave in the country.
He explained that 32 cases or 50 per cent of the total Omicron infections detected in Malaysia occurred among Umrah pilgrims.
Among the measures taken by the government is to postpone the umrah journey with effect from January 8.
