Segambut MP Hannah Yeoh today said Home Minister Hamzah Zainudin must review citizenship policy and amend laws instead of looking at the cases one by one. She reminded of the crucial times faced by stateless children and said policies should be amended for the sake of all such children. This comes in light of the recent case of 22-year-old Rohana Abdullah.

The former women, family and community development deputy minister said this in a Facebook post. She was commenting on Hamzah’s response to stateless Rohana’s case, who was brought up by a kindergarten teacher after her parents abandoned her.
In her post, she wrote, “In all stateless applications, every single child is innocent.” She reminded that for these children, every month counts in regards to education, health care and safety. She further stated that stateless children are not getting the advantages that are being offered to children with Malaysian citizenship.
Earlier, Hamzah, in a Facebook post, wrote that he was touched when informed of Rohana’s case. “I ordered my officer to investigate the veracity of the information that was given first before making any decisions,” he said.
