Muhyiddin Yassin Beats Dr Mahathir Mohamad, Anwar Ibrahim In Popularity: Survey

Kuala Lumpur: Muhyiddin Yassin’s popularity has increased over the past few months, especially among the Malaysian youngsters. Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister has received an overwhelming rating far surpassing the Pagoh MP’s immediate rivals. Muhyiddin’s popularity was found to be much higher at 65 %. The popularity survey was conducted by Emir Research.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad was a distant second with 10 percent while opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was only rated by eight percent of respondents, according to a third-quarter poll which was conducted in August, involving over 2,000 respondents nationwide.

Emir Research revealed that Muhyiddin garnered 73% votes from the females and also quite a good number of support from youngsters.

Emir Research said one possible explanation for strong minority support for Muhyiddin is “unanimous yearning for government stability.”

However, Muhyiddin’s obvious popularity did not extend to his Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia as only a few respondents approved of the party. Just 8 percent gave Bersatu the thumbs up compared to 42.8 per cent for Umno and over 15 per cent for PAS.

Chinese and Indian ethnic people also liked Muhyiddin as the country’s Prime Minister, while Anwar was the second choice from these two ethinc groups.
