A man in China has been sentenced to death after he murdered his ex-wife last year by setting her on fire, while she was live streaming. On Thursday, Tang Lu was found guilty of throwing gasoline on his ex-wife before setting her on fire in front of live audience. The horrifying incident lead to a public outrage against domestic violence in China.

The 30-year-old Tibetan video blogger, who used the name Lhamo, was live streaming on Douyin, the Chinese version of Tiktok, at her father’s home on September 14, 2020.
It is believed she refused to remarry Tang after separating from him in June 2020. According to reports, in 11 years of marriage, Tang repeatedly assaulted her.
Referring to the incident, Chinese singer Tan Weiwei stated that it’s among other high-profile cases of domestic violence against women.
The people’s court in the Aba region of Sichuan province sentenced him to death stating that his crime was “extremely cruel” and that the “social impact was extremely bad.”
Lhamo, who had over 770,000 followers on Douyin, suffered 90% burn in the incident and succumbed to the injuries 2 weeks later.
