After a decade-long wait, Pakatan Harapan chairman Anwar Ibrahim has finally been named as the country’s 10th prime minister. Anwar’s appointment as prime minister was finalised by Yang di-Pertuan Agong after chairing a special discussion with Malay Rulers today. Anwar Ibrahim will sworn in today at 5 pm in the presence of Agong.

In a statement, Comptroller of the Royal Household of Istana Negara Ahmad Fadil Shamsuddin said Yang di-Pertuan Agong has consented to the appointment of Anwar Ibrahim as Malaysia’s 10th prime minister. Anwar’s appointment was in accordance with Article 40(2)(a) and Article 43 (2)(a) of the Federal Constitution.
Earlier, on Tuesday Anwar Ibrahim and Muhyiddin Yassin was summoned by the King to present that they have a simple majority to form the new government, however both the leaders failed to do so. Which led to Agong schedule a special discussion with Malay leaders to get their views on the appointment of the next prime minister so that he can make a decision for the benefit and well-being of the country and people.
