Muhyiddin Yassin-led PN government must obey the Yang di-Pertuan Agong’s order to resume the parliament that has been suspended since the emergency began early this year. The monarch on Wednesday has categorically said that Parliament must reopen as soon as possible to conduct the debate on the ongoing Covid-19 situation in parliament. Agong reached the conclusion after discussing with opposition leaders, Special Emergency Committee and Malay rulers.

According to political experts, the statement clearly indicates that Malay rulers have lost faith in the PN government. They believe that the government has failed to tackle the pandemic. Speaking with FMT, Awang Azman Awang Pawi, associate professor at the University of Malaya, said that Malay rulers have concerned about the democratic function of the country.
Experts believe that Parliament has always played a significant role especially when country saw a crisis.
Earlier, Special Emergency Committee said that parliament must reopen as there is no threat of Covid among the MPs. The committee further said that most of the MPs have already been vaccinated.
Most of the opposition MP have welcomed that the King’s move. PKR chairman Anwar Ibrahim tweeted “Respect for the authority of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong and the Malay Rulers HRH through the results disclosed.”
“The Conference of Rulers special meeting yesterday has set a good example which must be followed in word and spirit by all Malaysians”, DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang said in his blog.
